How To Decorate Around Ugly Vent? — Good Questions

Pin_it_button

Q: I just got around to decorating my bedroom, and I don't know how to decorate around this unused ugly vent above my bed. There used to be an air conditioner in the vent that was left by the former tenant, but I don't need an air conditioner there (even in the summer). The vent makes dripping noises when it rains, it slightly juts out, and it can't be kept open because it leads directly outside. So I can't even use it as a cool shelf or plant container. There is a power outlet next to the vent and a light switch above my pillows (in the corner). What are some creative ways to decorate around this ugly vent?

How Do I Take My Small Kitchen from Frumpy to Fab? Good Questions

0202_gq02.jpgQ: I need your help to decorate and maximize the space in my apartment kitchen!! I have lived here for almost 3 years and I have yet to find the decor than transform my urban kitchenette from frumpy to FABULOUS!! The dimensions are small and narrow, 4ft. x 8 ft., and I want to maximize the most of my space. I don't know if I should paint or do artwork behind the pantry door or just move out!! As small as the space is, I spend a lot of time in my kitchen making great meals for my family and friends. If you guys can help make my kitchen look as great as my food, I will be totally in your debt!

Inspiration for Simple Farmhouse Style? Good Questions

1130_03.jpg Q: I'd like to mix a bit of farmhouse style into my mostly mod aesthetic. I'm not really into ruffles, chintz, or decorative chickens, but I love the simpler look, as represented by this photo (at left). I'd love some inspiration in the form of books, magazines, and blogs. Any suggestions?

Decorate Bedroom Around Found Antique Quilt? Good Questions

0921_gq03a.jpg Q: We just moved into a new house this weekend, and in the process of cleaning out the unfinished basement we found a gorgeous hand-stitched antique quilt! We washed it and it is in great condition. Best of all, we found that it fits our king size bed, which was going to need new bedding anyway.

0921_gq03.jpg Talk about a great find - I am so excited to incorporate this gorgeous quilt into our house, but I'm at a loss on what to do with the rest of the bedding (pillows, shams, sheets, etc.). I'm afraid that leaving everything else white will look really plain and boring, but I'm also afraid of veering too far into matchy-matchy territory, either. Our design style is fairly traditional, and the rest of the house is done mostly in cool gray and white tones. The quilt is ivory, with navy blue, pale pink, hot pink, and pale gray. The walls are also pale gray. Please keep in mind that this is a shared room, so I don't want to go over the top with the pink - it needs to be fairly gender neutral - but some pink is fine.

Celebrity Real Estate: Rapper 50 Cent Has 21 Questions Why His House Can't Sell

The 52-room Farmington, Conn., estate that rapper 50 Cent tried to sell for $18.5M in 2007 is back on the market, this time with a different listing agent, for a paltry $9.99M. As Luxist notes, the 17-acre property has had a tumultuous go at it, despite its casino-like list of amenities that includes a night club, countless fitness facilities, and personal helicopter pad. Just a guess, but those interiors that resemble a Marriott conference room don't really explain the $6M that Fiddy spent renovating the place. Photos above.
