Inspiration for Simple Farmhouse Style? Good Questions

Q: I'd like to mix a bit of farmhouse style into my mostly mod aesthetic. I'm not really into ruffles, chintz, or decorative chickens, but I love the simpler look, as represented by this photo (at left). I'd love some inspiration in the form of books, magazines, and blogs. Any suggestions?

Inspiration: Murano Glass Chandeliers in the Bedroom

Handcrafted Murano glass chandeliers are the ultimate symbol of luxury in lighting options, and what better place to pamper oneself than in a bedroom retreat. Oftentimes these beauties are seen with ornate styling in traditional interiors, but they can work well as eclectic statements in modern rooms, too.

Some traditional styles feature multi-colored glass draped in crystal, and while this is a look that works for some, don't discount these chandeliers completely if your vibe is more modern. We love a solid glass in a bright color popping off clean white walls, or a semi-transparent gold that hangs like a halo above a substantial bedframe. Another cool option is to do the chandelier in all white, which allows its silhouette to be the focus in a playful way.

Forever in Blue Jeans: Denim Inspiration

What's more American than apple pie? Perhaps blue jeans, the quintessential cowboy staple that has come to represent easygoing, effortless style. There's a reason we all love jeans so much — they're flattering, comfortable and so very practical.

My first sofa had a denim slipcover (thankfully, that's long gone), and the oversize pillows on my bed still sometimes sport denim covers. Whether you have bad associations with denim in decor or are open to the trend, one thing's for sure: a little can go a long way.
