On the Market: Five Listings Formerly Found in the Pages of Elle Decor

Celebrity decorator and talk show host Nate Berkus had his home featured in Elle Decor, not long after completing a historically respectful renovation of the 4,000-square-foot apartment in one of Chicago's preeminent pre-war condo buildings. But despite the press his place received, the brokerbabble for the flat, which was listed almost ten months ago, makes no mention of Berkus. The spread has had its price chopped by $500K, to $2.15M, since it was first listed, but that doesn't prevent the three-bed from being just as glossy-worthy now as it was back when Berkus was still interested in splitting his time between New York, Milan, and Chicago. ? Public relations guru Paul Wilmot tapped designer Andrew Galuppi to rework the interiors of his midcentury manse in Miami Shores, Fla. and guess what, they ended up on the pages of Elle Decor. Built around a lush courtyard, the four bedroom, 5.5 bathroom house last sold for $1.53M, meaning Wilmot isn't looking for much of a profit with the $1.6M asking price.

? According to the listing, this place was once featured in Elle Decor, but we doubt the place would make those pages today. The Rose Cottage in Eureka Springs, Ark., which comes furnished, has an outdated pink-and-green color scheme and distressed furniture galore. That's not exactly the sleek contemporary look we're used to. At least this place has a petite price tag to go with the dated styling, just $229K.

? Not surprisingly, prices in NYC are a bit higher than those in Arkansas, but the Elle Decor mention is still a strong selling point. The only trouble for this West Village loft is that fact the building, not this particular apartment, was featured in the magazine. Oh well, that doesn't seem to matter for the one-bedroom loft, which is currently asking $1.05M. One plus, the 850-square-foot pad has especially low maintenance.

? Not all houses that have been featured in the shelter mags enjoy the same sort of photographic excellence when they go up for sale. This Hudson, N.Y. center hall house has just two distorted photos attached to its listing, a far cry from the photos that earned the place a spot on an Elle Decor cover back in 1998. Better yet, the brick home is listed for just $325K.

Decorate Bedroom Around Found Antique Quilt? Good Questions

Q: We just moved into a new house this weekend, and in the process of cleaning out the unfinished basement we found a gorgeous hand-stitched antique quilt! We washed it and it is in great condition. Best of all, we found that it fits our king size bed, which was going to need new bedding anyway.

Talk about a great find - I am so excited to incorporate this gorgeous quilt into our house, but I'm at a loss on what to do with the rest of the bedding (pillows, shams, sheets, etc.). I'm afraid that leaving everything else white will look really plain and boring, but I'm also afraid of veering too far into matchy-matchy territory, either. Our design style is fairly traditional, and the rest of the house is done mostly in cool gray and white tones. The quilt is ivory, with navy blue, pale pink, hot pink, and pale gray. The walls are also pale gray. Please keep in mind that this is a shared room, so I don't want to go over the top with the pink - it needs to be fairly gender neutral - but some pink is fine.

34th America's Cup Race: Marina Green: Leave It as You Found It, A-Cup

Curbed SF looks at the America's Cup DEIR and the race's impact on neighborhoods. Part of a series.

Not surprisingly, Marina Green turns out to be prime viewing for the America's Cup, and unlike it's neighbor to the west, Crissy Field, has no endangered species or Plover nesting grounds. And according to the DEIR, there are no plans for permanent changes, unlike some piers we know of. During the 2012 races, the big swath of lawn will be the site of the main America's Cup VIllage while Piers 27/29 get their makeovers. With the addition of a floating dock, the site will feature three big tents- one as big as 160x140 feet and 40 feet high- along with smaller tents for the usual suspects, food, toilets retail, and VIPs. Plus maybe a big-screen monitor or two and bleacher seating for 2000 paid spectators.

During the events, it appears that any enhanced mass transit will move along Lombard Street going west and east along Greenwich Street, and if you plan on driving, it's expected that all cars will be banned north of Lombard except for residents, members of the St. Francis and Golden Gate Yacht Clubs, and event-related vehicles. The DEIR is silent on access or parking for boat owners in the East and West Marinas who are not members of the two yacht clubs. And it looks like the entire area will be fenced. The plan shows three "entry gates" which are missing from the rendering, and there's no word on how long the Green's closure will be for construction, the races, and break-down. While the DEIR judges Marina Green to be a high-impact area, because the installations are temporary, there's no need for any mitigation. The DEIR does promise, however, that the lights will go off at 11PM.

Boston Celtics guard and resident Kobe blocker Ray Allen has re-listed his five-bedroom Carnation, Wash., home for $3.7M, reports Zillow today. The former Seattle SuperSonics star lived in the 10,000-square-foot house on 4.5 acres for four years until he was traded to the Celts in 2007; the next year, he listed the estate twice to no avail. You can bet that someone who just signed a $20M contract extension has been all basketball, all the time, for as long as he's been pro: the place comes stocked with a full-size court.
