Now that we've gotten past that worrisome deficit problem at the Doyle Drive replacement project, here's a celebratory video of what's to come this spring. Supervisor Mark Farrell and project spokesperson Molly Graham take us on a tour of the nearly complete tunnel- to which traffic will be permanently shifted after a weekend closure of the corridor to demolish the vintage elevated structure. Expected to happen this spring, dates to be announced. The new route to the bridge will be called "Presidio Parkway" although we're not sure the "Doyle Drive" appellation will ever go away for locals. Its reinvention will extend the Presidio's green space and views, plus clear the way for the Trust's creek daylighting projects down to the Bay. The video is a production of Teed-Haze TV and aside from the briefest of intros by Butch Haze, is completely real estate marketing-free. Enjoy.

Forever in Blue Jeans: Denim Inspiration

What's more American than apple pie? Perhaps blue jeans, the quintessential cowboy staple that has come to represent easygoing, effortless style. There's a reason we all love jeans so much — they're flattering, comfortable and so very practical.

My first sofa had a denim slipcover (thankfully, that's long gone), and the oversize pillows on my bed still sometimes sport denim covers. When Curbed NY alerted us to the termination of real estate listings on Google Maps, we stared for a while at maps.google.com until we found, to the right of the search box, a teeny, tiny, drop-down box in which the words "real estate" appear. In a move similar to bringing out a plate of cookies and then whisking them away before anyone has a chance to try any, Google has announced that this real estate feature will be dropped by Feb. 10, citing "low usage" and the existence of better listings sites. With it will disappear many, many hours of potential procrastination.

Video Interlude: Stephen Colbert Eschews Blankets Forever; Proposes "Coma Cozy"

Talkshow host Stephen Colbert apparently isn't so into the Slanket that made its debut yesterday on Curbed; in fact, on last night's show he denounced Slankets, Snuggies, and "getting caught in the linens department of Nordstrom" in general (that's him above languishing in a department store). "Let's fact it, the Snuggie and the Slanket were just too much work!" he proclaimed, adding, "You had to put on a pair of pants underneath them. Who has that kind of energy?" Why, what ever will he choose as his warming-yet-attractive home accessory? Enter the Coma Cozy, "a fleece sack that you just climb into and zip up effort-free cocoon living." Unlike a blanket, he notes, "if you pass away inside it, and someone notices, it can just be dragged to the curbside." The video below has the full story of this miraculous invention.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Industrial designer Branko Lukic has conceived a tripped-out world in which spoons not only carry food from plate to mouth but also "heighten our experience of taste"; and dinnerware in which we "shift the placement of the handle from the outside to the inside." Must. Process. Slowly. Anyway, today Core77 sheds light on Lukic's newly released Nonobject, which showcases his wacky twists on some very common stuff. Both the book and its exquisite still-life photography have already received favorable reviews, but it's in the short yet highly intense video supplements that Lukic really shines.
