On the Market: Pacific Heights Manse Seeks Victorian Enthusiast and $5.5M

Wednesday, September 26, 2012, by Sally Kuchar Broker babble tells us that this big abode is "grand and elegant," and we're going to have to agree. So grand and elegant, that we'd feel bad if we wanted to switch out the Louis XVI stool for something a little more modern like an Eames LCW chair. And yes, while we understand that the furnishings are not included in the sale, it's hard to imagine this home without all its glamourous antiques. The 5-bed, 4.5-bath, 5,000 sq. ft. home just landed on the market asking $5,500,000. The original details have been meticulously preserved, but "tasteful updates" have been added. Property highlights include over four fireplaces and a legal inlaw apartment to help with those mortgage payments. The only bummer we can find is that there appears to be no elevator in the 5+ story house.

Real Estate Almost Sold: Pacific Heights: Handsome Victorian Takes $650K Off the Top, Maybe, Almost

Whew, that was fast. Maybe. Paneled, beamed, and wainscoted, 2500 Broadway, the 6-bed, 5-bath house at the corner of Pierce and Broadway went "pending" after a day on the MLS. Which isn't technically correct. It had been originally listed at $9,500,000 on September 16, briefly price-chopped and then de-listed on December 21 (presumably a holiday break) before reappearing on January 16, 2012, then de-listed on January 30, and re-listed January 31 as pending at $8,850,000. Makes one's head spin. But then, so do the grand c.1890s interiors and great views, wrapped up in a wood house designed and painted to look "half-timbered," a picturesque Victorian motif we don't often see in San Francisco. At some point in its past the house acquired an elevator and a garage was converted to a sound studio, plus there's another 2-car garage under a terrace on Pierce Street.

PriceChopper: Colorful Castro Victorian Gets Hacked To Pieces

Then: $849,000
Then: $799,000
Now: $750,000
You Save: $189,000

This Victorian condo on 16th and Sanchez just can't get a break. It was originally listed for $939,000 and has since chopped off almost 200K from its asking price and is now a short sale. What's worse: The current owner bought the place back in 2007 for $900,000. Do the math, people. The 3-bed, 1.5-bath, 1,555 square foot top floor condo's broker babble states that "the unit has 1 full bath plus a 1.2 bath, not shown in tax records." Readers, we'd love to hear your thoughts on why this pad hasn't been able to secure a buyer. Let us know in the comments! Monthly HOA dues are $231.19 and there's 1-car parking in the garage.

Fantastically Decorated Victorian Lands on the MLS

Tuesday, September 20, 2011, by Sally Kuchar Sure, the decor might not be your cup of tea, but can we agree that it's very "classy Grandma"? And yes, we mean that as a compliment. $2,300,000 gets you three bedrooms, three and a half baths, and three levels that make up a little over 2,500 square feet. Property highlights include a "fantastic" garden with a hot tub and a fountain; bedrooms with private patios, and enough built-in bookcases to display all of your iPads and decorative boxes.

That's Rather Hideous: Beautiful Victorian Suffocates From Theme-Park Interiors

There's nothing better than living someplace where the exterior and interior are completely and utterly incongruous. Take this example, brought to us by our cousins at Curbed Chicago. Outside, a restored facade recalls the grandeur and grace of late 19th-century Victorian architecture. Inside, the living room at once recalls a Days Inn somewhere outside Miami and a restaurant chain styled after '50s diners. Even further afield, the bedroom seems to draw inspiration from Rainforest Cafe, what with its boulder- and tree-themed murals. Does this place come with a souvenir shop?
