Screen-shot-2012-01-23-at-1.11.14-PM.jpgTime magazine coverboy Warren Buffett on the housing industry: "Once we get back to a million housing starts per year, I think pundits will be surprised just how fast unemployment will come down in this country,” he says. “There are 4 million people hitting age 22 every year in this country. Sure, you can double up on households for a while, but at some point, hormones kick in, and living with your in-laws loses its allure.” (He's done his part by listing his Calif. manse.) On the Market: Inside Warren Buffett's Former "Fit for a King" Beach Manse

Curbed LA has noticed that the glistening white Laguna Beach, Calif., home that used to belong to Warren Buffett is asking $4.995M, a modest figure compared to the $6.495M the place wanted when it was first listed in March 2009. The business magnate bought the four-bedroom, four-bathroom house in 1996, surely enjoying the glass walls, remodeled interiors, oceanfront views, and strip of private beach for years before selling it in 2005. According to the listing, the manse is located in the swank community of Emerald Bay, which features six community tennis courts, beach volleyball courts, a pool, spa, and parks. Not a bad slice of the good life!

On The Market: Kentfield: Warren Callister and Jack Hillmer Craft a House

Kentfield, up in Marin County, is a little far afield for us here at Curbed SF, but we'd walk there to see this pristine 1946/47 house by Warren Callister and Jack Hillmer. It was their first project together- they remained close friends for seventy-one years until Hillmer's demise in 2007, with Callister's death just months later in 2008- and it was built for painter/illiustrator William Haines Hall. The 4-bed, 3-bath house on a .75-acre lot in Kent Woodlands came on the market two days ago, asking $2,100,000. There's also a separate studio building and an organic vegetable garden. The house is very much still as-built and well-maintained, plus it's easy to see the joy these two young architects took in both the materials they were using and the exuberance of that cantilever. Along with the fact that the end of WWII had freed up supplies of wood, steel and concrete. (click on the images in the gallery.) Despite their deep and abiding friendship, this is one of their few collaborations, with Callister developing a large and successful architectural practice and Hillmer building very little over his career. 405 Goodhill Road in Kentfield is open Sunday, June 5, from 11am to 4pm.

Celebrity Real Estate: Drinking and Driving Haven't Helped Estella Warren Sell Her House

× Like us and you'll find top breaking news in your Facebook newsfeed. Sign up for our daily email newsletter and get top stories and breaking news delivered to your inbox. Thursday, June 2, 2011, by Rob Bear

Last month, Planet of the Apes (remake) star and former model Estella Warren found herself in a legal pickle after she was arrested for driving her Prius under the influence. Things didn't get much better down at the police station, where she slipped her cuffs and tried to make a run for it. Now the leggy lawbreaker is facing felony charges and, in all likelihood, a mountain of legal fees. All the while, her three-bedroom Beverly Hills home has been lingering on the market, looking for a buyer at $1.5M. What with those legal problems, a cash buyer might be able to swoop in and score a deal on her 2,250-square-foot hillside house.
