Sunday Streets Is Back: From the Mayor's office we learn...
From the Mayor's office we learn that the very popular Sunday Streets program will start back up again on March 11 with an event along the Embarcadero. For those unfamiliar with Sunday Streets, it's an event where streets are open to pedestrians, cyclists and people-powered wheels of all kind by temporarily removing vehicular traffic on select Sundays. There will be events on the Embarcadero, in the Mission, along the Great Highway, in Bayview, Chinatown, Western Addition and the Outer Mission/Excelsior. For a complete schedule visit SundayStreetsSF.com. [Curbed Inbox/photo via Sergio Ruiz]

CurbedWire: Shyamalan Sells Penthouse; S.O.M. Opens Office in L.A.; More!
The luxe, 1,700-square-foot terrace of Shyamalan's former NYC pad.
NEW YORK—The film director M. Night Shyamalan has found a buyer for the penthouse he's been trying to unload in the ritzy NYC neighborhood of Tribeca. The duplex, which was sold by Robert DeNiro's mega-broker son Raphael, had previously been listed for as much as $18.5M, but sold for just $9.5M. [The Real Deal]
LOS ANGELES—The prolific architecture firm of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill has just announced the addition of a Los Angeles Design Studio to their expansive empire. This is the second California office for the 75-year-old firm, whose previous West Coast foothold was in San Francisco. [CurbedWire Inbox]
FLORIDA—Unable to recoup more, the government has settled on $10 as a sale price for Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein’s Fort Lauderdale mansion. No, that's not a typo. The home, which had previously been appraised at $5M, was transferred to the mortgage holder for a single Hamilton. [The Real Deal]

Globe Trotting: Question: Does This Office Resemble Female Genitalia or Not?
Fast Company's design blog is getting down with its bad self and calling out the overwrought, poor taste of the new Shanghai offices of architecture firm Taranta Creatives. Most prominent in the space is a dramatic white staircase painted red inside that's meant to be “reminiscent of a large droplet of water ready to fall from the ceiling" but is actually reminiscent of lady parts. ("Once you see it, you can’t unsee it," Co.Design editor Suzanne Labarre correctly states.) Ascending the staircase brings you to the upper level, where workspaces appear to be dropped through the floor, thus turning the floor into a "desk" and giving anyone seated a prime view up the skirts of those walking around. All in all, we're talking "classy" with a capital "K."

Office Spaces: Inside the Tripped-Out World of AOL's New Palo Alto Digs
Photo by Jasper Sanidad (courtesy of Studio O+A) via Co.Design
Today Co.Design publishes a terrific piece on the newly revamped Palo Alto, Calif., offices of AOL. Yes, this would be the very same AOL that just unveiled its bonkers "Rainbow City" art installation-type balloon-world thing-y on the High Line in NYC—so no surprises that its professional environment would be equally unconventional. It's an open-floorplan space, but milking employees' need for privacy, design firm Studio O + A created—what else?!—a bunch of fiberglass pods. There's also a "Town Hall" that's “part kitchen, part play space, part kick-back area... [and] all-hands common area,” as well as (of course) a game room. (We actually think it's against Silicon Valley building codes for all Web companies to not have a game room.) Click over for all the photos.

Office Spaces: It's Almost As If New Lonny HQ Should be Featured in Lonny
Last night, the storks of spring dropped the May/June issue of Lonny into the digital sphere, along with a feature about the magazine's newly revamped NYC office. Thanks to the efforts of NYC-based design firm FLAIR (which has been featured in the pub before), and draperies source Lillian August, the fresh Lonny offices actually look like a pretty rad place to work. Office Spaces: If These Walls Could Talk: Studio of Charles and Ray Eames
Today Co.Design publishes a terrific feature on The Story of Eames Furniture, Marilyn and Jon Neuhart's painstakingly researched new tome that sheds light on every single piece of furniture ever created within the the hallowed hallways of Charles and Ray Eameses' design studio (above). Food for (ever so humbling) thought:
"When someone such as Yves Behar talks about a simple office chair being an 'epic challenge' that required 10 years of practice to even contemplate, they're responding to the legacy that Eames created, with their fanatical devotion to ergonomics and function. Sit in a shell chair or an Eames lounger; feel the way it seems to intuit your posture and bone structure. That's the truest statement of the remarkable process that lived in just a few rooms, in a California studio that created the modern furniture industry."
