2901 Broadway on Billionaire's Row landed on the market in 2006 with a mind-numbing asking price of $55,000,000. Not a typo, readers. Fifty five million bucks. While the 7-bed, 7.5-bath "Italian Renaissance" manse has highlights like a decrepit outdoor tennis court and a "Curio Room" that used to house the original owner's "extension oological collection," it'd be silly to assume that a buyer would swoop in right away and make an offer, especially since there are plenty of rumors going around that the home is in dire need of repairs. No, the buyer pool for these types of prestigious abodes is quite limited, so it was no surprise that the manse sat the market for quite some time, resulting in several severe price cuts. We should also mention that 2901 Broadway is currently the second most expensive home for sale in San Francisco; it's only $500,000 less than 2845 Broadway, which is currently under construction. There's no denying that 2701 Broadway on Billionaire's Row is one of San Francisco's most opulent, expensive and talked about properties. The 7-bed, 7-bath, 16,400-square foot mansion has been sitting pretty (and large) on the market for quite some time. The property was completely rebuilt and restored in 2002, and features an indoor basketball court and elevator to all five levels. It sat on the market for a year at $32,000,000, and just recently took a price chop of $3,500,000, bringing down the asking price to an obtainable $28,500,000. Billionaire's Row: Pacific Heights: Woodman, Spare That View-Blocking Tree

More drama in the battle between upslope Larry Ellison and downslope Jane and Bernard von Bothmer and their view-blocking trees. Yesterday the Urban Forestry Council's Landmark Tree Committee recommended that the von Bothmer's offending Acacia Melanoxylon be given landmark status. No mention of the von Bothmer's overly-enthusiastic redwoods, but the full Council will vote on the acacia on May 27th. Much back-and-forth, including dueling arborists, over the tree's provenance- was the garden designed by Thomas Church?- and habitat, with the acacia's being much loved by hummingbirds and red-tailed hawks, as well as humans. One arborist (Ellison's, of course) sniffed that the owners irreparably damaged the tree when they put in a swimming pool next to it. The huge tree is well over eighty years old; acacias were imported along with eucalyptus from Australia as ornamentals in the early 20th century. They're also classified as invasive, but that's a garden path we'll stay off for now, plus we know there's a "we all should have such problems" joke in here somewhere.
