The old site of Original Joe's, a popular San Francisco restaurant since 1937, has been placed on the market. The three-parcel lot at 120-144 Taylor is being marketed to potential developers who could construct up to a 13-story, 124-unit residential building. Currently the site contains around 30,000 sq. ft. of commercial space and a residential hotel with 29 rooms. Theater group Piano Fight recently signed a 10-year lease for about 5,000 sq. ft.
The owners are hoping to find a developer who will seek to benefit from the mixed-use development planned for 950 Market just around the corner. "It's a critical block bridging the Mid-Market to the Tenderloin," said John Duggan Jr., whose family owns the lot and founded Original Joe's. "I think the right buyer will have a short term game plan to stay with the the existing uses but will have a long term vision toward development."
