Elton John was not the only famous person to show off a Californian midcentury abode in this month's celeb-packed issue of Architectural Digest: the magazine also tours the newly renovated L.A. digs of NYC-based crooner John Legend and his fiancee, Chrissy Teigen. While house hunting, Legend gravitated toward low-slung 1960s homes and, much like Elton, looked for a space where open interiors could transition seamlessly to the outdoors. "Since this is our first home in Los Angeles, we wanted it to feel right not only for us but also for this city," Legend says. Designer Don Stewart was inspired by the home's simple structure, large windows, and exposed beams, updating the Hollywood Hills house with "deft layering of materials both rugged and refined," per Arch Digest. Inside, basalt and teak dominate the kitchen, sea-grass covers the wall in the master bedroom, and a silk shag rug spreads across the living room. Another highlight? The baby grand piano (duh) in the corner of the living space, illuminated from above by a custom hanging light fixture. Have a look above.
