Belgian floral artist Tierry Boutemy is the darling of the fashion world, and it's easy to see why. His vision is unique, and his execution borders on the obsessive. Welcome to his world....
The March issue of Vogue UK has a fascinating feature on Boutemy, exploring his influences, processes, quirks, and inspiration. It also has an amazing gallery of his work, so I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy. Nowness also has a great feature on him, including priceless floral advice ("For birthdays: Wild. Spontaneous. Nothing holding you back... For saying sorry
Nothing. Flowers cannot serve as an apology.").
The only description Thierry gives for this fascinating tablescape is "Private Event Belgium". That beautifully twisted branch might be manzanita (or maybe I just think that because I live in California), but I'm having trouble identifying any of the flowers. Do you think guests ate off this table, amongst the tea lights and petals? Magic and messy...
At a fashion show for Lanvin, Boutemy takes the vertical succulent garden trend over the top, creating a wonderfully lush doorway. Wouldn't you like to walk through that everyday?
This bouquet featured in Elle Belgium is one of the most traditional pieces I've seen by Boutemy, and though I usually don't go for bright, multicolor bouquets, they're pretty great. I think they work because they have so many colors and textures, and are so rich and vibrant.
I'm not sure what lessons we can take away from this floral headpiece, other than 1. If you've got a cutie who looks good in glasses and a bow tie, why not cover them with flowers, too?, and 2. Sometimes way-too-much is just right. I can spot delphiniums, Chinese lanterns, spider mums, and roses in Laetitia Bica's photo, but there's so much more.
Finally, there's Gaga. For American Vogue, Boutemy created this wild archway, a witchy portal to Lady Gaga's world. I would love to have my portrait taken under it, though perhaps in a less... stringy dress.
