There were whispers that editor Margaret Russell would make her first real flourish at Architectural Digest by publishing the Bel Air, Calif., estate of the late silver screen star Elizabeth Taylor—the magazine even photographed the property during Taylor's last days, right after her interior designer friend Waldo Fernandez finished renovating the four-bedroom house. Well, today A.D. drops the feature as part of its online preview of the July issue. Taylor, the mag is quick to point out, wasn't one to conform to the prevailing trends, instead preferring her own unique style. That helps explain the purple carpeting and chintzy floral prints in the 7,000-square-foot spread, but no excuses are necessary for the artfully arranged rose archways or the artwork from greats like Warhol and Hockney. Soon, the estate may see a new owner—the house is now up for sale at $8.6M—and we hope they manage to retain some of the star's endearing quirkiness.
