Hat tip to the blog Laughing Squid, which has recently featured the work of artist, sculptor, and messer-upper of everyday objects Michael Beitz. Beitz, who has a background in furniture design, has made chairs look like they're growing clouds, sofas look like they've been twisted and tied into a knot, and dining tables look like the St. Louis arch. Below, he makes the bones of a house collapse and rise up again simply by pedaling a bike. "I started to see these objects as expressions of social functions that could be altered to describe certain anxieties or tensions which occur on or around such objects," he's recently said in an interview with Don't Panic. Just watch, it's cool.

Faced with the collapse of the Argentina economy a decade ago, Alfredo Santa Cruz turned trash he had hoped to sell for profit into a full-on, fully inhabitable house. Called La Casa Ecologica de Botellas, it's made of 24,000 interlocking plastic bottles, many filled with sand or water for fireproofing; inside, furnishings are also made from recycled finds. Cruz estimates that 20,000 people have come and taken advantage of his free training sessions, making his project not only a really cool piece of green architecture but also something that combats homelessness around the community. Watch the video below.

Did You Know You Can Wash Dry Clean Clothes at Home? Whole Living

082211-jeans.jpg Unless there's a dry cleaners on your block, many of us would prefer to just buy garments we can launder at home without the hassle of taking things in, let alone remembering to pick them back up. Well relax, there might be some garments that can easily be washed at home without the headache. Here's what to look for:

The folks over at Whole Living shared a little insight behind the world of fashion. When an item can be either washed or dry cleaned, usually the company will opt to just say dry clean on the label to make sure we don't shrink our shirts and write them nasty letters telling them they told us we could do so.

So many items that are dry clean — really aren't! Some items that can be washed by hand at home are solid-c0lor cotton, wool, linen, rayon and washable silk. Want to learn more? It might just open up a whole new world of shopping and laundering to you. Check out all the details over at Whole Living.

When vacation-rental site Airbnb booked its millionth night, what did they do? Why, create an infographic, of course! Infographics, after all, are the way to immortalize stuff. The map above depicts the most interesting properties rented by Airbnb users, a group that ranges from Obama's Hawaiian vacation house to an entire village in Lichtenstein. Airbnb's offers so much more than just boring ol' houses.

House of the Day: Oahu Boathouse Needed A Little Help With The Whole Boat Thing

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Honolulu, Hawaii
Price: $34,000,000
The Skinny: When a property lingers on the market for too long, brokers tend to get some crazy ideas in their heads about how best to rectify the problem. Take this coveted waterfront parcel on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Purchased by the current owners in 2000 for $9.6M, the famed Kaiser Estate, on 5.4 acres, has been split into three plots for resale and priced for a tidy profit. The asking price for the trio is a whopping $80M, and this parcel, the largest of the three at two acres, is asking $34M. Those kinds of profits don't roll in without a little tweaking of the truth. In earlier sales literature, aerial photographs of the property showed the boathouse and pier, but no yacht. Well, apparently, the broker wasn't convinced the whole boathouse vibe was being adequately portrayed in pictures. So she went out, chartered a yacht, and hired the aerial photographer and pilot all over again, right? Maybe, but we don't think so. After taking a good hard look at the photo, we're going to call her bluff, or rather, her Photoshop. While the boathouse casts a shadow in the foreground, the yacht's white hull is reflected off the water. And the perspective shifts are nice and obvious, too. For shame! With $24M+ in profits on the line, we'd expect a bit better.

House of the Day: Got $55M in Christmas Money? How's About A Whole Harbor?

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Cohasset, Mass.
Price: $55,000,000
The Skinny: For the sky-high price of $55M, this seaside New England estate had better be hiding some stunning features behind that ivy-covered facade, right? Well rest assured it's got the goods, with highlights including a basement billiards room and pub, master bedroom balcony with hot tub, an expansive roof deck with a second hot tub and sea views, a tennis court, and a deep-water dock. All of this is spread over some 24,000 square feet on almost 9.5 acres. Quite a haul, but we're talking about $55M here! Oh, wait, we forgot to mention a few things, like the 55-room Cohasset Harbor Inn, two waterfront restaurants, and a commercial marina, all included in the sale. Ah, that's more like it. So, who's ready to become the Donald Trump of a sleepy New England village?
